Each year, our club’s foundation purchases and donates dictionaries for third graders at local schools. This grade was chosen because at this age, children are moving from learning to read into reading to learn, and vocabulary building is a crucial component of this process. Currently, we donate to Arlington Elementary School, GRASP Academy (formerly Justina Road Elementary School), Lake Lucina Elementary School, Parkwood Heights Elementary School and North Florida School of Special Education. For the 2017-18 school year we donated 266 dictionaries. We would love to expand this program so that every third grader in our service area can have a new dictionary of their very own.
If you are interested in becoming a sponsor for this project and helping us expand this important educational initiative into other schools, or if you are a principal at an elementary school in the 32211 or 32277 zip code and you are interested in participating in our Dictionary Project, please send email to Michael Rouse, Treasurer.
Here is some more information about the Dictionary Project which is attempting to provide a dictionary to every student in the United States.
